GET TO PLANTING

One of my early mentors was pastor/preacher/farmer named Rev. James C. Mitchell.  He was one of the greatest teachers I experienced. Many of the lessons learned were sitting on his property farming. For a city girl, this was a delight and a novelty.

One significant lesson was the art of planting. He handed me a seed bag, one day, and without instruction, I carefully placed one seed in each hole.  I was so proud that I was neat, attentive and had all these seeds left over.

He, of, course had to do it over.  He took a handful of seeds and threw them in each hole.  He gave a simple message: little seeds, little harvest.  Many seeds, many harvest.  He explained that planting one seed means that if something negative happens it is guaranteed for the death of the harvest.  Not so, if there are multiple seeds.   Several will survive.

Multiple seeds mean there will be a high probability of a larger germination of something coming into existence and developing.  It brings a stronger base and a stronger result.  It gives the planter the ability to see a richer, prosperous field which may need pruning and cutting at the end, but at the same times gives a stronger yield.

How many gifts have we thrown away trying to focus on one at a time or thinking little in our living?  God give us multiple blessings and gifts and we minimize them with limited planting and preparation.

God can bless whatever we plant, and the key is to plant generously. He/she who reaps sparingly sows sparingly, but he who sows bountifully reaps bountifully.  God has given us unique gifts and talents to help us fulfill our divine potential and that of others.

What kind of harvest do you want from God for you, your family, and your extended community?   How do you navigate the abundance and multiplicity of your seeds? Your answer will depend on the quality and number of seeds you plant.

Think for a moment on the seeds God has given you

Make a list of them:  Mentoring, Scrapbooking, Caring for others, cooking, writing, gardening, photography, etc.

Which have you neglected?

Why have you neglected them?  Is it because you have not found the energy or focus to plant and nurture them?  Do you not recognize their value and the result of their value?

It is time to get to planting multiple seeds just because…

It’s up to you.

Get to planting.
